A
life well lived, rooted in faith and family-Mzee Joseph Mutui Lemba’s 91 years
were marked by quiet strength, discipline, and unwavering devotion to God and
those he loved.
Born
in 1928 in Kaluni Village, Kauwi Location, Kitui West Sub County, Kitui County,
he was the firstborn in his family-a role he embraced with responsibility from
an early age. That sense of duty would define the course of his life. He grew
into a dependable son, a guiding brother, a committed husband, a devoted
father, and a respected elder whose wisdom shaped generations.
Throughout
his working life, Mzee Joseph served in various capacities including in Kitui
Town, at Kabete Barracks with the Kenya Armed Rifles and later in Nairobi and
Thika. He was known for his discipline, diligence, and deep sense of
responsibility. Providing for his family was not merely an obligation-it was a
calling he fulfilled with honor and consistency.
A
man of deep and abiding faith, he was baptized in 2004 at Kitamwiki Church. His
Christian walk was not only professed but practiced. He lived his faith
quietly-through integrity, patience, forgiveness, and steadfast prayer. Even in
moments of hardship, his trust in God never wavered.
At
home, he was a pillar of unity. His counsel was calm and measured, often
delivered with thoughtful pauses that reflected both wisdom and care. Many
remember his steady presence-a source of reassurance, direction, and strength.
His home was a place of warmth, discipline, and togetherness.
He
was married to Esther and the late Ann. He is survived by his wife, six sons,
daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a wide extended
family who continue to carry forward the values he instilled: faith in God,
respect for others, hard work, and family unity.
In
his later years, he faced health challenges with quiet courage and remarkable
patience. Despite periods of illness, his spirit remained steady until his
peaceful passing on 3rd August 2019.
Mzee
Joseph Mutui Lemba leaves behind more than memories-he leaves a legacy. A
legacy of perseverance. A legacy of faith. A legacy of disciplined love
expressed through action rather than words.
Though
he has departed from our sight, his teachings, example, and blessings remain
deeply planted in the hearts of those who knew him.
“I
have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”- 2 Timothy 4:7
